Driving at night is a danger to anyone who is out driving, no matter how safe a driver they are. Unfortunately for one Lafayette woman, a car accident at night proved fatal.
The fatal car accident occurred shortly before midnight at the intersection of Rue Louis XIV and Kaliste Saloom Road. One driver in a Buick Lacrosse turned left and collided with a Ford Mustang. The driver in the Mustang, a 22-year-old woman from Lafayette, was killed from the collision, while driver passenger in the Lacrosse suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The driver in the Lacrosse was charged with operating the vehicle while intoxicated and failure to obey a traffic signal.
It is always incredibly difficult for the family when losing a loved one in a fatal drunk driving accident such as this one. Besides the loss of the loved one, there can be medical expenses and funeral expenses, not to mention the pain and suffering of getting over the loss of a loved one. Not every family's reaction to this type of loss is that they should immediately bring a lawsuit. It is often helpful, however, to bring a wrongful death lawsuit in order to receive compensation from a negligent driver and minimize the costs associated with the loss of the loved one. Given how tragic the circumstances are, the lawsuit helps ease the burden that would otherwise be put on the family to take of all the expenses. As such, families should obtain legal help as soon as possible to make sure that the costs are covered.
After losing a loved one, it can take a very long time to recover. Seeking compensation can ease the grieving process and help the family begin the long journey towards recovery.
