The roads of Southern Louisiana can be dangerous places for both drivers and pedestrians, so both should follow the laws at all times. Truck accidents, unfortunately, happen all too frequently. When they involve a pedestrian, it is usually the pedestrian who suffers the most.
Recently, an 18-wheeler truck crashed into a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 90 in New Iberia. Authorities say the pedestrian was crossing the highway when the truck struck him and he was killed. The accident and the specifics associated with it are still under investigation at the time this post is being written. Authorities say they don't know if impairment of any kind on anyone's part may have played a role.
Whatever the reasons behind them, truck accidents often result in severe injuries or death. Injured people and their families must cope with huge medical bills and lost wages.
Commercial vehicle accidents carry their own legal complications as well. Sometimes, an accident is caused by driver fatigue or just general negligence on the part of the driver. In other cases, an accident is caused by a trucking company's failure to properly maintain the truck. Thus, there are often multiple parties who may be liable for a truck accident.
The authorities may never know exactly what happened that night on Highway 90. However, this tragic accident serves as a reminder to other people who are involved in truck accidents that they need to consult an attorney to fully understand their rights and options. If they were injured through someone else's negligence, they have a right to just compensation.
